A fire engine went past as I was walking past Bispham Police Station, and the firemen were hanging out of the windows shouting things like ‘Nice tits!’ and ‘You in the black dress, want a shag?’. They drove around the roundabout twice to make sure I knew they were shouting at me. I didn’t tell anyone because I was wearing a tight black dress my mother had forbidden me from wearing because it ‘makes you look like a slag’.
