I was waiting for the bus with my boyfriend. A man who appeared to be homeless, sat on the floor behind us outside a shop, asked me for change and I smiled and apologised, saying I wasn’t carrying any. He made a few lighthearted comments that I couldn’t really hear but I just smiled politely and didn’t respond to. He asked my boyfriend, who was holding a camera, if he had been taking pictures. He politely smiled and nodded. We didn’t really engage further as he continued to make a few more light hearted comments about photography. The man then asked my boyfriend if he will be taking pictures of me in the bedroom, saying “get her all dressed up like” and laughing. We ignored him at this point. I didn’t want to change my demeanour or say anything negative in response for fear that his ‘friendly’ attitude might switch while we were stuck in that spot. Fortunately the bus arrived moments later and we could leave.
